Race Reports - June 2022
25/06/2022 - The Sandwich 10k
Race Report by Robert Darg
A great effort from the Coasties gang on a very hot and windy race day. The Sandwich 10km has gained a reputation in the last year for being a quick and flat race, with the added bonus of a closed road section through the town centre.
Lots of Kent clubs were represented and even a runner from Cardiff (yes it was raining there today).
Team photo done, there was just time for a quick individual warm up and then we were off in 3 waves into the wilds of CT13. The route was well signed and marshalled and the weather brought lots of spectators out along the route - and some surprises dog walkers.
There was a nice little section through the town centre, which was a great opportunity to suck the belly in and go a bit faster. The water station at 6k-ish was very welcome in the heat, as was the 9 km marker and a half lap of the school field to the finish line.
The first male finished in 31:56, the First Lady in 39:19. The oldest runner again this year was a splendid 85 years old (there’s hope for Gary yet).
A great performance from the Coasties who all managed a strong finish and a smile to go with the medals. Definitely one for next years race list!
