Race Report by Darren Sayer

A team of 15 Coasties descended on the Countries Capital for the London Winter 10k Run.

The day started appropriately at crikey o’clock by chipping the ice of the car ready for the journey up to the capital, We had arranged to meet up at Charing Cross for the traditional Coastie team photo, Charing Cross was a hive of activity with train after train turning up full of runners with all their Blue Event bags strapped to their backs. We eventually all found each other, and the club photo was taken.

We then all made our way to the bag drop before descending on the start area which was located in Trafalgar Square.

There were 10 starting waves for the race, first wave left at 9:30 and the final one setting off at 10:40, The race route took you along The Strand then Worked its way through the streets of London towards Bank where we turned around before heading back towards the finish.

The route took you past some of London’s famous landmarks such as St Pauls, The Gherkin, The Royal Courts of Justice & Trafalgar Square just to name a few.

The atmosphere around the course was absolutley amazing, there were bands, singers, drummers, choirs with polar bears, snowmen & huskys lining the route cheering you on and giving everyone high fives, its not every race you can say that happens in!

The finish line was along Whitehall just before Downing Street and was lined with with loads of spectators, all cheering in the 17,814 runners across the finish line where they were proudly presented with their Winter 10k Medal.

A fantasic turn out by the Coasties, 15 Started, 15 Finished, you all did absolutely awesomely and did your club proud, well done everyone.

A special mention to our Holly, this was Holly's first running event in London and she managed to achieve her 10k PB along with a string of other PB’s along the way.

All in all this was a great event, very well orgainsed with an awesome atmosphere around the course with lots of crowd support, definitley one for the 2025 race calender!
