Race Report by Claire Titherington

Today, at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, Surrey, I took part in my first trail race and longest distance to date. There was a choice of 3 distances; 10km, 25km or 50km, with all setting off at 9am apart from some 50km walkers who chose an earlier start time of 8am.

I chose the 25km route which was an out and back course heading out of the estate and up and down the Surrey Hills. The views were spectacular, as were the aid stations which were fully stocked with sweets, crisps, fruit and several drink options.

It was a hard course and super hot, but by walking up the hills, taking a slow run on the level and down hill, and with the moral support from friends, I made it in 3hrs 54.

I was met at the finish line with the biggest medal I’ve ever seen, a glass of sparkling elderflower and a goodie bag.

This all-female event was organised by ‘SheRACES’. They raise funds to support the SheRACES' key mission to support more women on start lines and to ensure a fair racing experience for everyone. Sophie Power is the lady behind SheRACES, she is an amazing ultra runner and really inspirational - maybe inspiring enough to go back next year for the 50km 😬
